HOD Message

Keeping abreast with the latest research trends, the department of Mathematics has been offering a Ph.D. program in Mathematics since the academic session 2011-12. The faculty members of the department have so far guided 13 Ph. D. Scholars leading to their Ph.D. Degree in Mathematics. The department of Mathematics also offers a Masters’ program in Mathematics to qualified undergraduates, leading them to earn the degree of M.Sc. (Mathematics).

With the continuous advances in technology, large quantities of data are being collected, stored, and efficiently managed, but to analyze it and discover hidden information, the foundation of Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science is imperative. The department of Mathematics at GLA University offers a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mathematics of 3 years and a B.Sc. (Hons. /By Research) degree in Mathematics of 4 years with a specialization in Data Science. It is an interdisciplinary programme, an amalgamation of the fields of Mathematics and Data Science. It is designed especially to build up a strong foundation in Mathematics to enhance the analytical and computational skills of the students.

From the strong school of Applied Mathematics, the department has balanced expertise covering various areas of Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research and Data Science. The department is looking forward to encourage young faculty members across diversified areas of Mathematics. We are a strong mix of 29 experienced and well-qualified faculty members with 2 Professors, 5 Associate Professors and 22 Assistant Professors who are catering to the demand of the highest standards in academics. It is a matter of pride for us that the faculty members and the research scholars of the department have so far published more than 300 research papers in reputed SCI/ Scopus indexed journals.

The department of Mathematics organizes international conference “RAMSIA” (Recent Advances in Mathematical Sciences and Interdisciplinary Areas) once every year to increase the collaborative research and provide a platform to young researchers and students to come across the latest development in various fields of Mathematics. The department of Mathematics conducts workshops, faculty development programs, skill enhancement programs and guest lectures at regular intervals for the benefit of research scholars, students and the faculty members. The department owns a Pi-Maths club which conducts various academic activities round the year to develop creativity, sharpen mathematical abilities and inculcate a sense of social responsibility in the students.
