Department of Chemistry

Since the inception in 2010 as GLA University, the Department of chemistry has been integrated as a supporting department, teaching undergraduates (B. Tech/BCA) and post graduates (MCA) with its own Ph.D. program. The Department of Chemistry came into existence as a truly independent department during 2018-19 after the introduction of B.Sc. (H) Chemistry & M.Sc. Chemistry program successfully.

In order to support the R&D activities, the essential component for any university, Prof P. Pramanik, a pioneer in nanoscience research, joined our department in 2016 as a distinguished professor. The department took a giant step towards cancer research by appointing Prof. Manju Ray, recipient of the Bhatnagar award for her contribution to cancer research as a distinguished professor. Another bold step taken by the university by appointing Dr. Subhash Tripathi, Ex scientist BARC Mumbai as Associate Director R&D.

HOD Message

The remarkable feature is that the faculty members of the department are doctorates and have published more than 25/5 research papers in national and international journals of repute (SCI/Scopus indexed respectively) since 2016. Moreover, the department has filled 10 patents in the last 3 years.

Faculty members are involved in research in the field of nanocatalyst, nanoscience, cancer research, nano-sensors, protein chemistry, and coordination chemistry. The Department of Chemistry has produced 2 Ph.Ds in 2018, whereas 8 PhD scholars and 1 projector JRF, are actively working in the department presently.

The department of Chemistry has received a project from BARC Mumbai and Dr. Prabal Pratap Singh is the Principal Investigator, while another research project is in the process of being sanctioned (already approved) by BARC Mumbai. To promote collaborative research, the Department of Chemistry has signed a MoU with Jadavpur University Kolkata.

The department of chemistry is committed to quality education and research.

We, in our endeavor towards academic excellence, have introduced state-of-the-art laboratories and teaching pedagogy which caters to the demands of industry, as well as the higher alter of Goddess Saraswati. Theoretical knowledge and its practical applications are given due consideration and are kept at par with each other.

Experienced faculty members with national and international exposure with eminent luminaries in the field of chemistry (through guest talks) help the students in building their future as well as the nation. We are equally committed to the quality of research as well. We welcome you to GLA University, department of chemistry. "Let’s Rise and Shine"

Welcome to the Nanochem Research Group

It's all about atomic level

Our research focuses on the area of; Macrocyclic Chemistry: the study and application of MN4 complexes in electrocatalysis and biological science. Supramolecular Chemistry: the study and applications of non-covalent interactions like H-bonding, pi-pi stacking and other electrostatic forces. We are focusing on these concepts of molecular recognition to explore a wide range of important questions in areas of material science. Electrocatalysis: the study and applications of MN4 sites containing nanocomposites (with graphene and carbon nanotubes) in H2/O2 involving electrocatalytic reactions. More..
