About the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The department offers 4 year undergraduate (B. Tech) and 2 year postgraduate (M. Tech) programme. Excellent facilities in terms of equipment and staff are available to prepare students as professional Mechanical Engineers with focus on innovation, analysis and development of technologies. The department believes in the philosophy that the students can apply the theoretical knowledge to practice and exploration that eventually leads to experiential learning and overall personality development of the student.
The laboratories and workshops in the department have the best equipments and are maintained impeccably. Dedicated faculty-members keep pace with new trends and developments in the sphere of mechanical engineering. With technological advancement, the significance of machines and tools can hardly be debated. The Mechanical Engineering Department enhance strength in the areas of Production technology, Thermal science, Automobile engineering, CAD/CAM, Design engineering, Industrial engineering, Total quality management, Fluid engineering etc. Constant and careful attention to the departmental infrastructure has immensely helped in keeping it up-to-date, thus equipping the students with the necessary tools to acquire technical know-how.

Objectives of the department
To impart quality education at both the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, to conduct research and to provide consultancy and extension services as per current and emerging socio-economic needs. To improve continuously the quality of the teaching-learning process and set standards that other institutes would want to emulate. To be totally student-centric and cater to overall growth and development of intellect and personality so that the alumni are worthy citizens and highly sought after professionals.
Teaching at the GLA University is highly practical and focused on what the industry needs as it is evolved through constant interaction with leading professionals who are a part of the Industry and Academics.
Besides imparting theoretical knowledge, the curriculum lays stress on developing analytical skills, communication, problem solving and team work abilities. Hence, case studies, industry projects, presentations, research work and role-play form an integral part of a student's tenure at the University.

Personality Enhancement is greatly stressed at the University and all the students undergo special classes and workshops for this and ensure that GLA’ns become true leaders and imbibe a deep passion for the Country.
Qualified faculty members assigned with various theory subjects prepare course plans using the standard format provided by the University with emphasis on 'learning' of the students. The instructional or lecture delivery of the faculty will be through a set of Educational Technology / Tools opted by the faculty.
The lectures lay emphasis on the following:
- Knowledge content (topics in the curriculum)
- Utility value - application in real life
- Latest developments
The classroom sessions will be interactive and will encourage the students to think independently and inspire their creativity. The faculty will ensure that the students in the class have assimilated the content projected. High level of discipline will be maintained in the classroom. The faculty members are empowered to curb any disturbance and ensure that the time is used fruitfully. To this effect, students are expected to maintain decorum and refrain from causing any disturbance in the classroom. Using Camera and cell phones is prohibited in the campus. Students are advised not to being cell phones to the classrooms and laboratories.
Classroom instructions may be supplemented by students' presentations and / or guest lectures by external/internal experts.
Attendance will be taken by the faculty concerned at the beginning of each session. All the classes will begin on time and the students coming late will not be given attendance.
Focus on Industry Readiness:
The department organizes various credit corporate training programs, industrial consultancy etc. These connections serve benefit to students in the form of good placements, well-equipped laboratories and industrial exposure. The visit of industries in curriculum designing has helped the department to keep pace with fast-changing industrial needs. The department also benefits from the visiting professor programs of AICTE through which highly experienced senior executives deliver lectures to staff and students.
Exposure to industry relevant projects and industrial visits leads to the following:
