The ubiquity of information technology and computer power can be applied in many areas ranging from industrial production to everyday. Therefore, it is essential to develop better understandings and design methodologies for large scale pervasive systems for various domains, and for the societal challenges.
The ever-growing usage of computer systems in a wide variety of fields has generated a large demand of computer professionals. India is one of the leading exporters of IT talent and Indian Computer Engineers have played a major role in the growth and development of IT sector across the globe. According to NASSCOM, the Indian IT exports are expected to expand to the tune of US$ 175 billion by 2020 and the domestic sector will account for US$ 50 billion in terms of earnings. In order to meet the demand of computer professionals, the Department of Computer Engineering and Applications at GLA University offers various programs at both under graduate and post graduate level. All the programs feature a combination of theoretical and practical elements in order to provide the students a platform for correlating the learning. In addition, guest lectures and talks by eminent persons from industry and academia are frequently arranged to keep the students abreast with the latest technologies.
The students are encouraged to develop a wide range of hardware and software based real time projects, knowledge and skills in various areas of Computer Applications. They are encouraged to be creative, inquisitive, analytical, and detail oriented. Thrust is given to cultivate the ability to work in a team and to communicate well among the students. In order to promote research, the University provides scholarship to M. Tech. and Ph.D. scholars based on merit.  Moreover, AICTE has also sanctioned scholarship for GATE qualified candidates of the department for M. Tech. program.

The Department of Computer Engineering and Applications boasts of with a number of Computer Laboratories where the students get a hands-on experience on various emerging technologies, platforms, languages and computing devices. These labs are equipped with the contemporary, ultra modern software & hardware. All the computers are connected campus wide networking through LAN-WAN. A big number of dedicated servers manage it.  Internet connectivity of the entire University campus is managed by the Department itself. The Internet facility is available on the computers in the University, hostels and faculty residences through 1Gbps bandwidth from BSNL under NKN and 155 Mbps from UP Communications Pvt. Ltd

The Department of CEA also provides central computing facility through a computer center which is equipped with the latest hardware and all the required software. The computer center facility can be availed by all the students of the University. For hand on experience and to enhance experimental skills the computer center remains open till late in the night. 


Apart from regular classroom teaching and learning, great emphasis is laid on real time projects to ensure that students get a feel of the real life software development scenario and learn to work in a team. The research fraternity of the department works in different research groups. Few of them are:

  • Software Engineering and Distributed Systems.

Centers of Excellence 

Two center of excellence named as IBM Center of Excellence and Wipro Mission10X Technology Learning Center (MTLC) are established in the department. 

IBM Center of Excellence:

This center is established Established on December 03, 2011, in the department to train faculties/students on IBM tools in order to compete in the ever changing technology workplace. At IBM center, a number of workshops are conducted by IBM certified personnel to give the students, hand-on training on various IBM tools like DB2, RAD, WID, RFI, Tivoli and Lotus. The certifications in these tools give extra benefit to enhance knowledge of the students and campus placement. Students can work on IBM project competition which is held on a national level. Recently, IBM India (Pvt) Ltd. Bangalore has awarded the GLA University as one of the top 50 Technical Institutions during the “TGMC : The Great Mind Challenge 2013”

Wipro Mission10X Technology Learning Center (MTLC):

MTLC is a collaborative effort of Wipro and GLA University for enhancing the Engineering attributes to the Engineering graduates through Project Based Learning (PBL) and inaugurated at GLA University, on August 22, 2012. MTLC helps students and faculty members imbibe higher forms of learning through practice based approach. At MTLC center, students and faculty members are encouraged to conduct research in emerging areas and motivated to adopt a muti-disciplinary learning approach to enhance their employability skills.

 Industry specific Programme:

GLA University also has a MOU with Infosys Technologies through Campus Connect Programme on GLA campus. Campus Connect is an industry-academia partnership initiative launched by Infosys in order to keep the students industry ready. Infosys shares its proven courseware, methodology and education experiences and helps in curriculum development and training the students. The following Subjects are introduced in B.Tech./MCA recommended by Infosys:

  • Big Data And Analytics
  • Cloud Computing 

Industry Certification:

The certification is one of the proofs with an aspirant which allows to Industry to make sure the candidate’s ability, through a very competent way. At CEA, our students and faculty members are always eager to get certification and find opportunity to pursue a special area of interest that closely complements their professional requirements 

The Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification is the ideal and preferred path to Microsoft’s world-renowned technology certification programs. Recently 77 students and 24 faculty members of the department get MTA certification. 

IBM Professional Certification validates the skills and demonstrates the proficiency of an individual in the latest IBM technology and solutions. Many of the IBM certification programs are conducted by the department such as certification on DB2, TDS, Lotus, RFT, WID, RAD etc. In recent years 88 faculty members and 684 students got IBM Professional Certification.

Industrial Visits:

Industrial visit is a vital part of engineering courses. It helps to bridge the gap between classroom and the real field world. In CEA industrial visit is considered as one of the tactical methods of teaching. Main aim industrial visit is to provide an exposure to students about practical working environment. They also provide students a good opportunity to gain full awareness about industrial practices. Through industrial visit students also get awareness about new technologies. We frequently arrange industrial visits for our students.

Guest Lectures:

Guest lectures enable the students in enriching the latest updates regarding avenues for higher studies and jobs as well as the need of the industry. We invite the eminent personalities of various fields and stalwarts of the industry to lend valuable information from their first hand experience which is serve as an ideal platform for the students. Scholars from various industries, Motivational speakers and soft skills trainers help in molding the overall personalities of the students.
