Major Area in Civil Engineering Curriculum
Besides air and water that are provided by nature, the three basic needs of human beings are food (roti), fibre (kapda), and shelter (makaan). Civil engineers play a vital role in providing these three basic needs. Therefore, developed infra-structure (housing, road and rail network, irrigation, power generation etc.) is essential for the economic and environmental well-being of any nation. With the ever-increasing population of the world, in general, and the developing countries, in particular, the civil engineers will, therefore, always be required to develop cost-effective and eco-friendly structures to fulfill the needs of the mankind. The structures may include a simple dwelling unit to a cluster of multi-storeyed buildings, a small water retaining structure to a giant water resource project comprising a huge dam and its appurtenant structures, a communication network of highways and flyovers, railroads and airports, and so on. The course curriculum has been designed to equip civil engineering students with the basics required for all kinds of civil engineering works. The Department has in all 16 faculty members including one professor from USA. The department is being guided by a Professor with a rich experience of 32 years of teaching/research out of which 21 years were at the USA (including work with NASA).
The departent has furnished and airconditioned class rooms which are adequately equipped with smart class room accessories. The laboratories too are well equipped with sufficient additional space for future developments.

About this course
Civil engineering deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of man-made structures and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. From Transportation to Hydrology, Environmental to Construction and Geotechnical Sciences to Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering is an area with a lot of diversity.
The first-most objective of Department of Civil Engineering at GLA University - ranked among the best Civil Engineering Colleges in Uttar Pradesh is to produce well-groomed workforce who have the ability to cope-up with the uneven challenges of the forthcoming industry. We aid our students with intellectually stimulating environment and course curriculum widely spread over core practical training, project work, expert lectures and more.
The duration of an M. Tech. course is four semesters for regular students and six semesters for part timers who are the faculty members in GLA University polytechnic. The M. Tech. seats are filled by GATE exam and the GLAU Entrance Test.
Teaching in each academic year is divided into two semesters. The duration of the course is four semesters for regular students and six semesters for part-time students (for GLA University employees only). All the admitted candidates would be governed by the Academic Regulations for Post-Graduate Programmes, as laid down by the GLA University.
We are having three specializations in Masters in Civil Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Transportation Engineering.
- Geotechnical Engineering
M.Tech. in Structural Engineering trains individuals in advanced concepts of structural engineering by in-depth coursework, hands-on modeling projects and dissertation work. Students undergo coursework during the first year on various aspects of structural engineering and apply these constructs to a major research project during the second year. The objective of the program is to produce structural engineers who integrate and build on the Program's core curricular concepts in the pursuit of professional leadership, teamwork, life-long learning, and career advancement.
The Post Graduate course shall enable a Civil Engineer to actively participate in nation building in the fields of Irrigation, Drainage, Flood Control, Hydro-electric power generation, Navigation etc. in public as well as private sectors.
Through their forum “NIRMAN”, the students of the department participate in technical and extra-curricular activities such as paper/poster presentation, model making, auto-cad drafting, cultural activities etc. In addition, Civil Engineering Consortium enables the Department to receive feedback from the student representatives in academic and related aspects.
