Civil Engineering is concerned with the improvement in quality of basic needs of human civilization and taking care of the naturally and humanly built environments with their planning, designing, construction, operation and maintenance. The Civil Engineering Department at GLA University is earnestly working to develop solutions to major sustainability challenges of the country and committed to produce leaders impacting the society at large. The Department is actively involved in basic and applied research in the field of Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering along with high quality technical advisory support to various organizations through R&D projects.
The Department of Civil Engineering is a full-fledged academic department for emerging Civil Engineers. The Department provides outstanding teaching and research environment. The Department offers for Admission in 4 years B.Tech. Course and 2 years M. Tech. course. The Department has an objective to produce quality engineers to meet the ever growing demand for technical manpower in the Civil Engineering arena.
The Department of Civil Engineering (DOCE) at GLA is the youngest department in the University and was started in 2011 with about 100 students joining the course. Under the guidance of prominent professors drawn from various IITs and NITs and talented Faculty members from renowned institutions and Universities from India, department has prospered and made a name in the country in terms of teaching. The department has well developed laboratories. The developed course curriculum is second to none and includes the various disciplines of civil engineering. Practical component forms a substantial part of the academic program, which is essential for grooming the budding engineers. Curriculum also includes training in computer aided design and drafting using standard packages like STAAD PRO and CAD etc. and training in soft skills as well for enhancing their conversational power and employability. Thus, the placement of the recently graduated students has been fairly good. The branch has gained popularity indicated by the increased intake of about 240 undergraduate students per year. The department took a quantum jump in 2014 and introduced its M.Tech program starting with masters’ in structural engineering. Since then two more specializations in M.Tech program namely Geotechnical Engineering and Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering have been added.
The department currently offers the following courses:
B.Tech in Civil Engineering
M.Tech in Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering & Water Resource Engineering
